sugar.butter.love was born out of a lifelong passion for traditional candy making and a simple mission: to create a better, more accessible style of classic confections. As a woman-owned, family-operated business rooted firmly in San Mateo County, we believe that the best things in life are made patiently by hand.

Crafted with Care

Our journey started with perfecting our signature soft peanut butter brittle—a recipe born out of a desire to create a melt-in-your-mouth buttery flavor that anyone could enjoy without the dental anxiety of traditional hard brittle.

Today, our kitchen remains committed to the principles of the local cottage food movement. We utilize simple ingredients, steer clear of mass-production shortcuts, and infuse every small batch with love. As the business grows, our focus stays the same: giving back to the community, improving our craft, and offering thoughtfully made treats at an affordable price.

From our family to yours, thank you for supporting local craft food and a Northern California cottage industry business.

Meet The Maker

Hi, I’m Dana. This business is deeply personal to me—it’s a reflection of my life, my values, and the family who shaped me.

For the past 22 years, my husband and I have called San Mateo home. Before starting this sweet new chapter, I spent over 25 years working at a prestigious Bay Area law firm. While my career was meaningful, my life outside of work was truly full; during those years, I raised two children, loved two stepchildren, and served as a caregiver for both of my parents during their battles with cancer. Through every high and low, I stayed grounded by family, friends, and community.

Our business officially took shape during COVID alongside my sister-in-law, Christine. What started as a shared kitchen tradition making holiday confections evolved into something real—a small idea rooted in connection.

A woman stands behind a table with baskets of sugar butter love products outdoors. She is smiling, holding packages, wearing a black apron with the logo 'sugar•butter•love'. The table has a black cloth with 'sugar•butter•love' written on it, and there is a white sign with social media icons and QR codes on the left. Green foliage and a wooden fence are in the background.
